Pride Walk-off With A Win In 11
by: Jeff Esposito | Long Island Ducks | Thursday, September 29 2005

NASHUA, NH - The Nashua Pride topped the Long Island Ducks 5-4 in Game Two of the North Division Playoffs at historic Holman Stadium. The win sets the stage for a Game Three showdown where the winner will head to the Atlantic League Championship Series to take on either Atlantic City or Somerset, who will also play Game Three tomorrow.

With the score knotted at four Shane Hopper hit a sacrifice fly to score Orlando Miller and give the Pride the win in the 11th inning.

The Ducks sent the game to extra innings when pinch runner Dominick Ambrosini scored on a Manny Martinez single in the ninth and Shane Arthurs kept Nashua from adding to their total.

Pride reliever Mike Marchesano (1-0) picked up the win after striking out the one batter he faced in the 11th inning. Matt Beech (0-1) took the loss after allowing the winning run in the 11th. Long Island starter Pedro Borbon, Jr. gave up four runs on seven hits while striking out four, but did not factor into the decision after tossing seven innings. Pride starter Nate Teut did not factor into the decision after tossing 5.2 innings, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out a pair.

Offensively, the Ducks were led by Manny Martinez, Pete Rose, Jr. and Steve Torrealba who all finished the evening with two hits. Jason Johnson hit his first postseason with the Ducks in the fifth inning.

The Ducks and Pride will play Game Three of their three-game North Division Championship Series on Thursday night at historic Holman Stadium. Lance Davis will take the hill in the rubber match against Nashua’s Pete Hartmann. David Weiss and Mike Graham will call all of the action live from Nashua starting at 6:35 p.m. over a streaming Web cast that can be heard on www.liducks.com by clicking on the radio icon.
