Devils Brave Snow and Boston to win 3-1
by: Mark Krulish | Staff Writer | Sunday, December 16 2007
The New Jersey Devils were able to stop their two-game slide in Boston on Thursday with a 3-1 victory over the boys from Beantown.
An estimated 1,500 people were in attendance for the game as the vast majority of fans were kept away by a huge snowstorm. Those in attendance didn’t have a whole lot to cheer about.
Despite a fairly fast-pace to the first period, there were very few chances by either team. Though, the fans would be treated to a fight late in the first period between Milan Lucic and David Clarkson.
The Devils finally opened the scoring midway through the second period.
Brian Gionta picked up an outlet pass from Johnny Oduya and took off down the right wing gathering plenty of speed. He let a slapshot go that found its way between the pads of newly acquired Bruins goalie Alex Auld. The Devils would never relinquish that lead.
New Jersey went up 2-0 on the powerplay four minutes later. After playing catch with Zach Parise, Jamie Langenbrunner ripped a slapper over the shoulder of Auld for his third goal of the year.
Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur made 19 saves, but would be denied a chance at a shutout when Marc Savard tallied with the man-advantage early in the third.
Langenbrunner added an empty netter for his fourth of the year. It was his second two-goal performance of the year, after netting two goals in his season debut against the Rangers on November 14th.
Notes: Jay Pandolfo, who traditionally plays very well against Boston missed his seventh straight game with a groin injury. Boston goaltender Manny Fernandez underwent surgery on his left knee Wednesday, he is out for the season. The paid attendance was 12,064, but there were approximately 1,500 actually at the game.
